Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc., the three owners of The Pokemon Company, have registered two new trademarks in Japan this week.
This time, the trademarks are for the Japanese names of Farfetch’d (カモネギ/KAMONEGI) and Snorlax (カビゴン/KABIGON). Both of these trademarks apply to “merchandising, video games, and events”.
As for why The Pokemon Company has chosen now to file trademarks for Farfetch’d and Snorlax, it could be just part of regular maintenance to keep their copyrights. Either that, or the two Pokemon could be receiving some special treatment in the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield. We will bring more details should that come to pass.
