Reddit user dominodave has created a comprehensive infographic showing the journey a Pokemon takes from the Game Boy Advance games to Nintendo Switch.
If you wanna transfer your Pokemon from the Game Boy Advance Pokemon games (Generation 3 games Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen) to Nintendo DS, you must use the Pal Park feature to perform a one-way migration to Nintendo DS Generation 4 games Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver.
Then, you’ll have to transfer your Pokemon from the Generation 4 games to the Generation 5 games Pokemon Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 through the Transfer Lab on Nintendo DS. This is also a one-way transfer.
The third step is to purchase a subscription for Pokemon Bank on Nintendo 3DS, and using Pokemon Transporter to transfer your Pokemon from the Generation 5 games to Pokemon Bank. In the very near future, you’ll be able to directly transfer your Pokemon from Pokemon Bank to Pokemon Home., which will allow you to bring your Pokemon into Pokemon Sword and Shield, as long as it’s in the Galar Pokedex.
