Rumor: Nintendo Adding Pokemon Transfers To Switch Online Expansion’s Pokemon Stadium

Last year, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo added Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 to the Switch Online Expansion Pack service, although missing a crucial feature which allowed players to transfer in their own Pokemon from other games.

Recently however, a user on Famiboards noticed something very interesting in a new video about the service published by Nintendo Japan. When the section discussing Pokemon Stadium comes up, the notice stating that “Pokemon Cannot Be Transferred To These Games” is no longer present. This notice was present in the original announcement that Pokemon Stadium was coming to the Switch Online, and how we learned that transfers would not be possible in those versions of the games.

This discovery has led many to speculate that Nintendo intends to finally add the ability to transfer Pokemon into Pokemon Stadium for Switch Online. Some have gone a step further to speculate that this also confirms that Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal will be coming to Switch Online’s newly announced Game Boy catalogue, as these were the only games that Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 accepted transfers from.

When Pokemon Stadium initially launched without transfer capability, the move was met with criticism as that was a big part of the original games, and would make completing the Switch Online version difficult if not impossible as players were limited to only rental teams. Fans would likely be quite pleased if this feature returns, even more so if it heralds the addition of the Game Boy Pokemon games to the service as well.

At the time of this writing, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have yet to make any official announcements regarding this potential addition. Stay tuned for more info as it comes.
