Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Struck By Review Bombers On Metacritic

Earlier in January 2020, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore finally hit the Switch with its mix of JRPG battles and pop culture. While the game mostly sailed past a sea of censorship controversy without too much commotion, a small pocket of dissent appears to have emerged against it once more.

As at the time of writing, dozens of bogus reviews have popped up on the game’s Metacritic page with garbled text (seen below) and user review scores of zero. Of course, this quickly dragged the overall user review score for the game down to just 3.6/10. For comparison, the same user review score sat at around 8.0/10 just two weeks ago (based on an archived version of the page).

From the looks of these similar posts, it’s likely that the review-bombing is being orchestrated by a single individual or a small group. Of course, we’ve seen this time and time again with Nintendo titles like Astral Chain and Pokemon Sword/Shield – but it does seem odd that Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is only being sabotaged one month after it launched.

Unfortunately, this just comes with the territory of Metacritic’s open reviewing system. We’ll just have to wait and see if it gets addressed in the future.
