The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has arrested Wan Piao, the owner of a toy import store in El Monte, California for manufacturing and possessing counterfeit Pokemon, Mario and other branded goods.
At the time of his arrest a few weeks ago, Piao was in possession of about US$1.4 million worth of counterfeit goods based on franchises such as Pokemon, Mario, Hello Kitty, Angry Birds and more. Over 500,000 counterfeit items were seized, including toys, backpacks, cards, and clothing.
Piao currently faces seven felony charges for counterfeiting of registered trademarks, and allegations of taking $500,000 in fraud and embezzlement. As far as we know, the case is still under investigation at this time.
