Toys For Bob Interested In Working On A Banjo-Kazooie Game

For the past few years, developer Toys For Bob has been influential in bringing back classic 3D platformer franchises, being responsible Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time as well as the upcoming Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

In an interview on podcast Kinda Funny Games, Toys for Bob expressed interest in working on Banjo-Kazooie, another iconic 3D platformer series that has gone neglected for a long time. Many of the staff are huge fans, and they would love the opportunity to work with these “timeless” characters.

Associate creative director Lou Studdert: “It’s a franchise we love. As platformer fans, Banjo’s top of the heap. We have some huge, huge fans of that franchise on our staff… So, if the opportunity ever arose, that’d be amazing. We love the franchise.”

Studio head Paul Yan: “If you look at the through line of the types of games that we like to make, I imagine that that’s part of that staple as well. Like those characters, you know, I think you described as nostalgic. I think that’s one way of looking at it. I think of them as timeless. They’re iconic. And I think the types of games that we want to produce are ones that speak to a timeless place in in the player as well, an ageless place. We call it the inner child, right? So I think those they’re wonderful games. We’re we’re huge fans.”

At the moment however, Banjo-Kazooie is still under the purview of Rare, itself having been acquired by Microsoft many years prior. Although a collaboration seems unlikely, Toys For Bob themselves managed to break away from Microsoft and land on their feet ,so one never knows what the future might have in store.
