Ubisoft Worked On Starlink-Star Fox Collab Even Before Nintendo’s Approval

Sometimes the best way to get things moving is by just doing it. Rather than wait for Nintendo to approve the use of Star Fox characters and properties, Ubisoft developers decided that they should start work right after discussions began.

Speaking to Okay Cool, Starlink Producer, Matthew Rose, said that after initial discussion began and the team felt that Nintendo was interested in the Star Fox collaboration, the team started work even before Nintendo green lit the idea. The team was just too excited about the idea.

“So we always thought “maybe, maybe they’ll be interested. Maybe this is something we can do” and so we started right away, because we were like “we’re so excited by even them having this conversation with us, even though they hadn’t confirmed anything.” And so we started working. We started drawing concepts, we made a 3D-printed Arwing that had their proper connectors and toys in it so that you could take it apart and everything.”

It is good to see that the collaboration turned out well and Nintendo being more receptive of third party developers utilising their intellectual properties. Hopefully this will signal the start of more good things to come.
