Umihara Kawase Fresh Has A Metroidvania-Style Map System

Today a few new pieces of information have been revealed for Umihara Kawase Fresh!, a new Umihara Kawase game announced for Nintendo Switch.

First, we’ve learned that Umihara Kawase developer Studio Saizensen is working on the game, along with Toshinobu Kondo handling character design. The rubber engine will be used in Umihara Kawase Fresh, to maintain the fundamental feel.

Unlike previous games in the series, Umihara Kawase Fresh! will ditch its traditional stage structure for an “interconnected metroidvania-style map with a quest system”. This way, players new to the game can take prescribed routes, while hardcore gamers are free to use shortcuts or speed run.
