Unravel Two Developers Wanted Game To Be On Switch, Hampered By Technical Hurdles

Unravel Two is not coming to the Nintendo Switch, and the game’s producer Michael Gill has explained why it isn’t.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Gill explained that the game runs on 60 frames per second and that it would be very hard to keep both the framerate and graphical fidelity on the Switch as much as they would like the game to be on the Switch.

“We had the same reaction when we saw the Switch for the first time,” producer Michael Gill tells GamesIndustry.biz, reminding us that when work began on Unravel Two two years ago – shortly after the original released – the Switch didn’t even exist yet.

He adds: “Even those controllers on the side are the same colours as the Yarnies – it’s incredible. It’s a machine made for Unravel Two. But we run at 60 frames per second, that’s really important for us and we want to keep that framerate. To keep that on Switch, and to keep the graphical quality [would have been difficult].”

Gill even went on to defend EA saying the game not making it to the Switch is not EA’s fault and was an internal decision within the team to just focus on the Xbox and PlayStation, in which Unravel Two’s lead programmer  Jakob Marklund agrees.

“No, it’s not EA pulling the brake,” Gill interjects. “They really want to do games on Switch.

Marklund adds: “Don’t blame EA, blame us.”
