Things are looking bright for Monolith Soft – the developers behind the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
Thanks to an interview with USGamer, we now know that sales of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 have surpassed the studio’s expectations! The same goes for the game’s recent Torna expansion DLC, which acts as a story prequel.
Check out the following blurb from Executive Director Tetsuya Takahashi:
From a sales perspective, I have to say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 exceeded my expectations…We really saw more people pick the game up and experience it in the North American and European territories than we thought would do so.”
“It’s still early days for the Torna DLC, but from what we’ve seen in Japan, the sales of the Torna DLC are exceeding our expectations as well.”
When asked about the future of the franchise, however, Takahashi did not lean toward another mainline title or a Xenoblade Chronicles X sequel. Instead, he mentioned that he may want to try something completely new:
“I’m someone who gets bored of whatever it was I did last…If the [Xenoblade Chronicles] series continues, you just might see it take a third option. It might go down a path it hasn’t gone down before.”
Looks like Monolith Soft has quite a bit of wriggle room to explore new ideas now! With the studio looking to hire more employees and opening a third development studio, we’re definitely excited to see what kind of amazing projects they can churn out next.
