Today we have a very bad piece of news to share with customers who purchase Nintendo Switch download codes or any other type of digital content from an Amazon site not based in their country.
A NintendoSoup reader pointed out to us that he was unable to purchase a Nintendo Switch download code from Amazon Japan. The reader obviously doesn’t live in Japan, and before today, everyone living outside Japan could purchase download codes from Amazon Japan as long as they have a Japanese address in their address book.
We did a little investigation and found that this blockade has been implemented not only on Amazon Japan but every single Amazon website in the world. So for example you’re living in the UK and wish to purchase a download code from Amazon US, you won’t be allowed to do so even if you have an US address in your address book.
This is a huge loss for customers who purchase digital content or Nintendo Switch download codes from other Amazon countries at a potentially cheaper price.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
UPDATE: Good news – apparently setting your default address to the address of the corresponding Amazon country is a new workaround for this issue. In the past, having the address of the corresponding Amazon country in your address book was simply enough.
