While the rest of the world is enjoying the Switch 2, India may soon be seeing an official launch for the original Switch console.
These rumors were discussed on the Day Zero podcast, where it is claimed that the Switch 1 is likely to officially launch in India during February or March 2027. Redington is believed to be the main distribution partner. Oddly, it is only the baseline Switch 1 that is being released, and not the Switch 2, Lite, or even the OLED model.
Notably, Nintendo’s current console lineup is already available for purchase in India through grey market channels such as Amazon, at prices comparable to what Nintendo would be expected to charge. It is possible that Nintendo is choosing to test the waters with the more established Switch 1 before diving into the Switch 2, the latter of which is still more expensive and has a smaller exclusive library.
The last time Nintendo officially launched a console in India was with the Wii and DS, and it remains to be seen how well they will fare with the Switch 1, if the rumors are even true. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
