Earlier this year, Paramount pictures embarked on an overhaul of its Sonic the Hedgehog movie – with the team involved giving Sonic’s movie design more appealing and cartoonish features after severe backlash from fans. Sadly, it looks like the studio responsible for that fantastic redesign will no longer be around to bask in their achievement.
The studio in question, Moving Pictures Company’s Vancouver branch, is reportedly getting shut down – effective immediately. According to CBC, employees from the studio received emails that the closure was due to “increasing external market pressures” in Vancouver, and that that the “decision [had] not been taken lightly”.
Moving Picture Company’s other studios in London, Montreal, London, and Los Angeles will still remain open for business. Reportedly, the email does ask former staff to “consider other opportunities to join MPC” at these other offices.
To be clear, the movie is still going forward with Paramount Pictures at the helm. We’ll report back as we hear more about this unfortunate situation.
