Following the lack of various pre-order bonuses in Nintendo Switch copies of Sonic Forces sold in Southeast Asia, the market that traditionally receives North American video game releases will be encountering another potentially huge problem on February 16.
In North America, the physical release of Bayonetta 2 will be sold with a free digital code of Bayonetta 1 for USD59.99. We understand that the same SKU will be appearing in Southeast Asia. However there will be an additional SKU which only comes with Bayonetta 2 alone for USD49.99, an exclusive print for the Southeast Asia and Middle East markets.
It’s unclear why Nintendo has decided to do a physical print for Bayonetta 2 alone for both regions, as the Nintendo eShop is technically non-existent there, customers would have no official way of purchasing Bayonetta 1 unless they change the country of their Nintendo Account.
The same is happening in Hong Kong and Taiwan (both countries do not have official Switch eShop support) but at least it makes sense as the Bayonetta Non-Stop Climax Edition will be released there. The Climax Edition comes with a game cart of Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2.
We worry some customers may become confused with both SKUs. After all they look almost the same as each another and people could end up purchasing the one they do not want. Let’s hope retailers in those regions will make a clear distinction between both products!
