Capcom Confirms Monster Hunter Wilds Will Not Launch On Switch, Despite Investor Requests

Last year, Capcom announced Monster Hunter Wilds, a brand new installment in the Monster Hunter series, slated for launch in 2025.

In the initial reveal trailer, the only platforms listed for the game were PC, Xbox, and Playstation, with the Switch nowhere to be seen. This was perhaps unsurprising to many viewers, as the graphics and gameplay seemed far beyond what the hybrid console was capable of. That said, during Capcom’s latest shareholder meeting, one attendee asked the company directly whether Monster Hunter Wilds would only launch on “non-portable platforms”, citing the Switch as a specific example.

In response, Capcom frankly stated that the currently announced platforms were the only ones “capable of realizing” Monster Hunter Wilds in the way that they intended, providing definitive confirmation that it won’t be coming to Switch.

Q: You have announced Monster Hunter Wilds for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but not for portable platforms like the Nintendo Switch. Will this game be limited to these non-portable consoles?

A: One concept we’ve incorporated into this title is aiming to portray the maximum of the world of Monster Hunter by utilizing the latest technology to its limit. To that end, the platforms capable of realizing that concept are currently the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Going forward, we will provide more thorough details regarding these concepts and themes when we release information on the game. We hope you look forward to it.

Even so, Capcom’s usage of the word “currently” in their statement have led some to speculate that Monster Hunter Wilds might make its way onto the Switch’s successor, which is rumored to be a fair bit more powerful than the Switch. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
