Square Enix has put out a FAQ outlining the differences between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D Remake.
First and foremost, while there is a difference in gameplay graphics and performance, there are no differences in the story or the items you can get in both versions. Second, the Switch 2 version cannot be played on the Switch, so please be careful when purchasing different versions.
Third, while it’s possible to play the Switch version on Switch 2, it wouldn’t be possible to enjoy the improved performance and graphics from the Switch 2 version, and Square Enix recommends players playing on Switch 2 to get the Switch 2 version for this reason.
Finally, the publisher confirmed that there is no upgrade path from Switch to Switch 2, considering that the game is not a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on Switch 2. This means that you wouldn’t be able to purchase an Upgrade Pack to upgrade from the Switch version to Switch 2 version of the game.
