Compared to its predecessor, the Switch 2 has seen a number of high profile third-party titles releasing on the console, primarily due to having the necessary hardware to run the games at an acceptable quality.
In an interview with Variety, Nintendo Of America President Devon Pritchard discussed Nintendo’s goal to provide a “diversity” in the games that can be played on the Switch 2, serving as a platform where players of all ages “can come in and have those different types of creative experiences and have fun.”
When asked if this might include something like Grand Theft Auto VI, which is due to release next month, Pritchard had this to say:
“That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”
Grand Theft Auto VI certainly ticks many of the checkboxes for a game that would have been impossible to run on a Nintendo system prior to the Switch 2, including having more mature subject matter as well as being very intensive in terms of graphics and performance. Publisher Take-Two previously mentioned that they “fully expected” to support the Switch 2, so perhaps it will be more of a matter of whether the hardware actually has the strength to run the game. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
