E3 2023 Has Officially Been Cancelled

It looks like one of gaming’s biggest tentpole events will not be going ahead this year.

In an official tweet earlier today, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has officially confirmed that this year’s E3 show will not be proceeding as originally planned. Both digital and physical events (previously slated for 13 to 16 June 2023) are now cancelled.

While the ESA did not initially share specifics about this cancellation, IGN has confirmed with two industry sources that the ESA had sent out an email revealing that this year’s show “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

Following this, ReedPop’s Global VP of Gaming Kyle Marsden-Kish shared the following public statement on the cancellation:

This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.

As reported previously, this cancellation of E3 2023 follows in the wake of many gaming giants such as Nintendo, Ubisoft, SEGA, and more opting not to attend the event.

We’ll report back if we hear more in the future. Stay tuned.
