Earlier this month, Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2, along with what appears to be a brand new Mario Kart game.
During the short teaser, eagle-eyed fans spotted that Donkey Kong had a new design for the game, one that brought him a bit closer to his classic appearance and look from the Super Mario Bros. Movie. This new design replaces DK’s previous and most iconic look, which first appeared in Rare’s Donkey Kong Country, which remained consistent across all his appearances until now.
Fans so far have had mixed reactions to the change, leading to some comedic memes and videos such as the one shared by LUIZ do Comercial below.
However, Kevin Bayliss, the Ex-Rare designer credited for Donkey Kong‘s first redesign has voiced approval for the change, sharing the above animation with the following comment:
You can take the KONG out of the Country, but you can’t take the Country out of the Kong! (I love it – this is really funny! – Everything changes! – Change is good!)
