Final Fantasy XIV is somewhat of an oddball in the series’ history. The series took a MMORPG turn and was a big disaster when it first launched. However, from its initial ashes, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn took over its unsuccessful predecessor to a strong population 10 million players.
In an interview with Eurogamer, game producer Naoki Yoshida was asked if it was possible for the game to come to the Nintendo Switch. Yoshida commented that he is definitely open to the idea although he stressed that the game has to have cross server function despite the hardware differences.
“I’d like to open it up to as many platforms as possible – we want to include as many players as possible. Not just Switch – even Xbox, if it’s interested in this, we’d like to open it up. We’d like to have it on as much hardware as possible. Even though the hardware might be different, they will be playing in the same world – it has to have cross server function. That’s something that’s at the core of FF14, so we’d want to keep that as a policy.”
Hopefully, the team will view the success of the Nintendo Switch and bring the game to the Switch for everyone. You can read the full article from Eurogamer here.
