The Pokemon Company Issues Statement Addressing Disastrous Launch Of Destined Rivals TCG Set

Earlier this week, The Pokemon Company opened pre-orders for the Destined Rivals TCG set, which features localized cards from the recently revealed Team Rocket themed set in Japan.

Unfortunately for fans, it seems that the launch was plagued with technical issues. Not only did the store go offline for several hours, but many customers who thought they had locked in their pre-orders found that they had been cancelled without their knowledge. It is believed that due to the technical issues, the site did not shut off pre-orders when the products were out of stock, resulting in “fake” successful pre-orders that The Pokemon Company would not have been able to fulfill.

In a statement to VGC, The Pokemon Company has this to say about the debacle:

“We are committed to providing a smooth purchasing experience at Pokémon Center and employ technology that helps get products into the hands of fans first and foremost. Currently, Pokémon Center implements a virtual queue for certain products to help provide a more seamless purchasing process during periods of increased site traffic. We will continue to explore measures that help create the best possible experience for Pokémon Center customers.”

The past few Pokemon TCG launches have been an endless struggle for the Pokemon Company to meet demand, as TCG cards are highly desirable by ordinary fans, players, collectors, and resellers. It is likely that as long as this demand remains high, The Pokemon Company will continue to face similar issues with every new release.
