It appears that the Nintendo Switch has become one of the last few bastions for Gal*Gun fans.
Developer Inti Creates has announced that the Xbox One version of Gal*Gun Returns is now cancelled – stating that it was “unable to ensure consistency of [the] experience across all platforms” after some kind of discussion with Microsoft. This is despite the Xbox One version already being complete in its development.
This leaves Nintendo Switch and Steam (on PCs) as the only two platforms that the game will be releasing on.
Here is the full statement from Inti Creates below:
“Today we would like to announce that we will no longer be releasing Gal Gun Returns on the Xbox family of consoles.
As a remaster of the original Gal Gun, we wanted to strive to ensure that we stayed true to the spirit of the first entry in the Gal Gun series, and while development of the Xbox version was complete and the master ROM under review, it became apparent, after productive discussion with Microsoft, that we would be unable to ensure consistency of experience across all platforms.
As a result we have decided to re-focus attention to Nintendo Switch and PC for the upcoming release of Gal Gun Returns.
We understand the disappointment from everyone who was looking forward to playing the game on Xbox One, and would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support.
Please accept our sincerest apologies for this change in the planned release. We hope you enjoy the Gal*Gun experience on other platforms.
We look forward to continuing working with Microsoft on other PQube releases going forward.”
It is currently unclear if Microsoft was requesting Inti Creates to alter any of the game’s suggestive content during this “discussion”. Last year, Inti Creates had already cited concerns about the future of the Gal*Gun series, due to Sony’s increasingly aggressive censorship of sexual content on the PS4 platform.
We’ll report back if the situation develops further in the future.
Gal*Gun Returns will be hitting Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2021 in Japan and Asia – while the west will receive the game within 2021. A physical limited edition bundle is now available for purchase from Rice Digital’s online store over here.
