GameStop, the biggest video games retailer in North America, reveals how high demand is for the SNES Classic Edition.
GameStop Senior Merchandising Director Eric Bright says that the retailer sold out of pre-orders in just 8 minutes the moment it went live on their website. Due to the large amount of traffic the site received after pre-orders, it briefly went down.
Part of the reason why the plug-and-play system sold out very quickly is due to scalpers and other customers using automated bots to snatch up an SNES Classic Edition. GameStop acknowledges this problem by allocating more units to their brick-and-mortar stores.
So if you’re out of luck, perhaps you may want to visit a GameStop near you on September 29.
