Earlier this week, Gamexplain shared another analysis video for Super Mario Maker 2, but not all of it was positive news.
Ahead of its launch on June 28 2019, Gamexplain got a chance to try the Super Mario Maker 2 out for themselves and give their impressions. Their analysis video discussed a variety of topics, including the new story mode, changes to the unlock system, Meowser and a bunch of cool Easter Eggs.
The most striking reveal however, was the fact that Super Mario Maker 2 will apparently not be launching with any kind of Amiibo support. In the original Super Mario Maker, tapping an Amiibo would unlock special costumes in the form of “Mystery Mushrooms”. However, for some reason this feature has been removed from Super Mario Maker 2, which was confirmed by Gamexplain after speaking with a Nintendo representative.
Like the lack of Friend support functionality, this news will likely come as a disappointment to many who were looking forward to playing the game. That said, there is always a possibility that these features could be patched into the game at a later date, provided Nintendo is so inclined.
For a full rundown of Gamexplain’s findings and impressions aside from the lack of Amiibo support, you can check out their video for yourself below:
