As reported previously, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be hitting Nintendo Switch physically in December 2021. However, it looks like folks wanting to grab the game’s retail release may have to contend with owning only part of the experience in their hands.
Retail listings have apparently revealed that the Nintendo Switch release of the game will require an additional digital download – with a glaring “Download Required” banner on the cover (see below). There are currently no details on how big this download will be, or if the game cartridge will still be playable without it.
This is likely attributed to the game’s rather large file size of 25.4 GB on Nintendo Switch, and the expensive cost of larger-capacity Nintendo Switch game cartridges.
We’ll report back if we hear more in the future. Stay tuned.
