Guide: How To Win In Mario Kart World’s Knockout Tour

A new mode called Knockout Tour is debuting in Mario Kart World, which promises to offer far more intense and chaotic races than those in Grand Prix.

In this guide, we will explain how you can win in this new mode.

What is Knockout Tour?

Knockout Tour features eight different tours with 24 racers competing for first place. Unlike cups in Grand Prix, each tour spans across six different locations. These races are non-stop, meaning there are no intermissions (breaks) between them, and there is no scoring system.

However, there are checkpoints between the different locations, and you must be at a certain position or higher in order to continue racing. For example, the first checkpoint requires racers to be in 20th or higher; if you are in 21st place or lower when you pass the checkpoint, you will be kicked out of the race and the tour ends. This will continue until the finish line – the racer who crosses it at 1st place wins the tour.

  • First checkpoint: 20th place or higher to stay in tour
  • Second checkpoint: 16th place or higher to stay in tour
  • Third checkpoint: 12th place or higher to stay in tour
  • Fourth checkpoint: 8th place or higher to stay in tour
  • Fifth checkpoint: 4th place or higher to stay in tour
  • Finish line: 1st place wins the tour

Key differences between Knockout Tour and Grand Prix and other modes

Most tracks in Knockout Tour take place on highways connecting one location to another. This means that you can expect to drive on straight roads most of the time, unlike in Grand Prix. There will be many obstacles on these tracks, such as enemies, cars, and environmental hazards. Some sections of the track will have railings and walls you can trick off to avoid obstacles and gain an advantage over other racers.

In addition, it will be much more easier to gain powerful items, such as Red Koopa Shells, Triple Red Koopa Shells, Bullet Bill, and Golden Mushroom in lower places compared to other modes. This means that even if you’re front-running in first place, you cannot let your guard down as you’ll be exposed to attacks from others and racers who use mushrooms to overtake you.

The strategy for Knockout Tour

Based on our playthroughs for Knockout Tour, it is important to select a kart that offers high speed and high acceleration. This will allow you to quickly recover your speed if you hit an obstacle or get attacked by other players.

The next thing is to stay away from the chaos. We recommend staying out of first place from the first checkpoint to the fourth or fifth checkpoint, as it is difficult to defend yourself from attacks from other players. You should stay behind the other racers and farm powerful items. Keep these powerful items in reserve to use shortcuts at a tactical time (such as when there’s lots of chaos going on or when you can use a shortcut).

The most powerful items to use in Knockout Tour are the Golden Mushroom, Triple Super Mushrooms, and Super Mushroom. They are powerful because they allow you to overtake other players quickly, especially when there’s a lot of chaotic attacks happening among them. You should strategically use them to take shortcuts to overtake other players and pass through the checkpoints so you can stay in the race.

Items such as the Bullet Bill, Star, and Mega Mushroom have been nerfed and don’t offer as much speed as the Golden Mushroom, Triple Super Mushrooms, and Super Mushroom. We recommend using these items in places that are narrow and crowded, so you can cause lots of chaos and overtake other players.

You should start aiming to stay in first place once you’ve passed the fourth or fifth checkpoint. Also, don’t forget to max out your coins in the earlier checkpoints to max out your speed, protection, and recovery.
