Guide: Tips To Complete Pokemon Scarlet/Violet’s Mightiest Mark Kommo-o Tera Raid

Over the course of this weekend, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet players will be challenging a 7 Star Tera Raid which features a Ice Tera Type Kommo-o with the Mightiest Mark.

This 7 Star Tera Raid gives out a great deal of useful rewards such as Vitamins, Rare Candies, Ability Patches, and most notably, Herba Mystica. This makes being able to complete the raid consistently extremely useful. Below you will find some quick tips and tricks for beating this Raid Battle, as discovered and shared by members of the Pokemon community.


How To Unlock 7-Star Raids

In order to even participate in this raid battle, players will need to progress far enough in the game to qualify for 7-Star raids. This essentially means meeting the following requirements:

  • Have completed the story and seen the end credits
  • Have completed all Gym Rematches and the Academy Ace Tournament
  • Have completed 10 or more raids rated 4* and above.

Once you have completed these steps, the 7-Star Raid will appear both in your overworld as well as on the Tera Raid board.


Kommo-o’s Ability and Moves

  • The Tera Raid Kommo-o has a Fighting Tera-Type, meaning that it does more damage with its Fighting-Type and Dragon-Type moves.
  • As a Fighting Tera-Type, it is weak to Psychic, Fairy, and Flying type attacks.
  • Kommo-o’s Ability is Soundproof, which blocks the effects of sound-based moves.
  • Kommo-o’s notable moves include the following:
    • Close Combat: Fighting-type physical move that reduces the user’s defense and special defense stats.
    • Iron Head: Steel-type physical move that has a change to make the opponent flinch.
    • Dragon Claw: Dragon-type physical move.
    • Boomburst: Normal-type special move that hits all opponents.
    • Clanging Scales: Dragon-type special move that lowers the user’s special defense.
    • Clangorous Soul: Status move that raises all the user’s stats at the cost of some HP.
  • Kommo-o’s Battle Behaviour
    • Start ~ Uses Clangorous Soul
    • 93% HP / 93% Time ~ Tera Energy Shield
    • 80% HP ~ Clanging Scales
    • 75% Time ~ Kommo-o Stats and Status Reset
    • 60% Time ~ Player Status and Stats Reset
    • 55% HP ~ Clanging Scales
    • 40% HP ~ Kommo-o Stats and Status Reset

General Recommendations

  • Avoid using Pokemon with a weakness to Fighting and Dragon moves. Fainting in battle reduces the timer, and if it reaches zero before the raid boss is defeated, everyone will fail the raid battle.
  • Use Level 100 Pokemon to maximize your chance of successfully completing the raid.
  • Use Vitamins to maximize your Pokemon’s key stats to increase your chance of successfully completing the Raid.
  • Use Cheers when necessary
    • Go For It! ~ Boosts Attacking stats.
    • Hang Tough! ~ Boosts Defensive stats.
    • Heal Up! ~ Heals HP and cures Status conditions.

Recommended Pokemon

Espathra

  • Psychic typing makes resistant to most of Kommo-o’s Attacks.
  • Ability Opportunist copies the opponent’s positive stat changes, which can help to charge up Stored Power.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature.
    • Max out Sp.Atk stat with Calcium
    • Max out HP stat with HPUp
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Lumina Crash ~ Psychic-Type special attack that lowers the opponent’s Sp.Defense stat.
    • Roost ~ Recover’s the user’s HP
    • Reflect ~ Status move that reduces the damage done by physical attacks.
    • Psychic ~ Psychic-Type special attack that has a chance to lowers the opponent’s Sp.Defense stat.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Heals HP after dealing damage.
  • Strategy (Solo Attacker / Support)
    • Opportunist copies Kommo-o’s initial stat boosts.
    • Use Reflect to protect yourself from Kommo-o’s physical aattacks.
    • Use Lumina Crash to lower Kommo-o’s Sp.Defense stat, deal damage, and charge your Tera Orb.
      •  Switch to Psychic when Kommo-o’s Sp.Defense won’t go any lower, and switch back to Lumina Crash after it resets its stat changes.
    • Once your Tera orb is charged, Terastalize into a Psychic type and continue to use the strategy above until Kommo-o faints.

Slowbro

  • Water/Psychic typing makes resistant to most of Kommo-o’s attacks.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature.
    • Max out Sp.Atk stat with Calcium
    • Max out HP stat with HPUp
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Stored Power ~ Psychic-Type special attack that does more damage based on the amount of stat boosts the user has accumulated.
    • Calm Mind ~ Status move that boosts the user’s Sp.Attack and Sp.Defense stat.
    • Iron Defense ~ Status move that boosts the user’s Defense stat.
    • Chilling Water ~ Water-Type special attack that does damage and reduces opponent’s Attack stat.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Heals HP after dealing damage.
  • Strategy (Main Attacker)
    • User Chilling Water to lower Kommo-o’s Attack stat and charge your Tera Orb.
    • After Kommo-o clears your stat buffs, start using Calm Mind to boost your Sp.Attack, SpDefense, and the power of Stored Power.
    • After you have used Calm Mind 4 to 5 times, Terastalize into a Psychic Type and use Stored Power to lower Kommo-o’s HP.

Magearna

  • Steel/Fairy typing makes resistant to most of Kommo-o’s Attacks.
  • Ability Soul Heart boosts its Special Attack stat every time a surrounding Pokemon faints.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature.
    • Max out Sp.Atk stat with Calcium
    • Max out Def stat with Iron
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Draining Kiss ~Fairy-Type special attack that heals the user.
    • Dazzling Gleam ~Fairy-Type special attack.
    • Iron Defense~ Status move that boosts the user’s Defense stat.
    • Reflect ~ Status move that sets up a shield that reduce the damage done by the opponent’s physical moves.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Heals HP after dealing damage.
  • Strategy (Solo Attacker)
    • Magearna works best in solo raids, where it can take advantage of the constantly fainting CPU Pokemon to boost its Special Attack stat.
    • Use Reflect to protect yourself from Kommo-o’s attacks.
    • Use Draining Kiss to charge your Tera Orb and heal HP.
    • Once your Tera Orb is charged, Terastalize into a Fairy-Type and use Dazzling Gleam until Kommo-o faints.

Azumarill

  • Water/Fairy typing makes it immune or resistant to most of Kommo-o’s attacks.
  • Ability Huge Power  doubles its attacking stats.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Adamant Nature
    • Max out Attack with Protein
    • Max out Def with Iron
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Belly Drum ~ Status move that maximizes the user’s Attack stat but also reduces HP by half.
    • Play Rough ~ Fairy-Type physical attack.
    • Mud-Slap ~ Ground-Type physical attack that has a chance of lowering the opponent’s accuracy.
    • Chilling Water ~ Water-Type special attack that reduces the opponent’s attack stat.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Heals the user whenever it lands an attack
  • Strategy (Main Attacker)
    • Use Chilling Water to charge your Tera-Orb while reducing Kommo-o’s Attack stat.
    • When Kommo-o resets your stats, use Belly Drum to max out your Attack stat.
    • After using Belly Drum, Terastalize into a Fairy Type and use Play Rough until Kommo-o faints.
