Guide: Unlocking Landscaping And Waterscaping In Animal Crossing New Horizons

One of the most highly anticipated new features of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability to terraform your island through the “Island Designer” app.

That said, not only is this feature not immediately available upon starting your adventure, its also a pretty cryptic to unlock. The game doesn’t tell you, but Tom Nook will only give you the Island Designer app after you’ve had K.K Slider visit your island for a concert.

In order for K.K Slider to visit your island, it will need to have an Island Level of 3. Island Levels are unlocked after building a certain number of houses, and can be raised in a number of ways:

  • Have more Villagers come to live on your island (via the Campsite or other means)
  • Build structures (e.g. fences, decorations)
  • Plant flowers

However, once you have the Island Designer app, you will still need to obtain permits for “landscaping” and “waterscaping” to make full use of the terraforming feature. Both these permits can be purchased from the Nook Stop for 6,000 miles each.
