High Court Orders Maricar To Pay Nintendo USD460k For IP Infringement
The Japanese high court has ruled on the high profile intellectual property (IP) case between go-kart operator Maricar and Nintendo.
On January 20, 2020, the high court has decided in favor of Nintendo. Following the interim ruling decided in 2019, Maricar has been ordered to pay 50 million yen (USD458,000) to Nintendo for infringing the company’s intellectual property through costumes that resemble characters from the Mario Kart series, as well as their misleading “Maricar” business name.
Maricar has also been ordered by the high court to cease activities that infringe upon Nintendo’s IP.
