Igarashi Discusses Future Plans For Bloodstained, “Didn’t Expect” Switch Port To Have So Many Problems

Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night has been out on Switch for a while, and barring a few ongoing issues has been generally well received. In an interview with Gameinformer, Koji Igarashi (IGA) shared a bit more about his experiences working on the game, as well as what’s next for the series.

According to IGA, “Quality Control” was the hardest part about working on the project. This was mostly due to having to work with an outsourced studio and the challenges of back-and-forth communication and planning.

“when you’re working with an outsourced studio, it can be difficult to match the quality line when things changed. With Bloodstained, we would first share our goal with the outsourced studio and make sure we both agree and determine the necessities, but even with proper planning it’s difficult to reach.”

IGA also commented on the issues with the Switch port, saying he “”didn’t expect [the Switch port] to be as bad when it was released”. He also reassured fans they were working with Wayforward to iron out the bugs, and even re-implement a cut enemy inspired by Castlevania.

Finally, IGA confirmed that he was still planning to turn Bloodstained into a series after putting so much effort into developing it. Referring to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as “a starting ground for the next step” he hopes to not only create more 2D side-scrollers, but also “more games of the genre with different world settings.”

What do you think of IGA’s plans? Let us know in the comments below.
