Impressions: Nintendo Post E3 2019 Event At Frankfurt

Like every year Nintendo of Europe invited us to take part in their „Post E3 Event“ to try their potential hit games. And, of course, I took the chance to go to Frankfurt and visit Nintendo’s headquarters. And the event was a blast!

Astral Chain

Nintendo of Europe showed the media and press a secret presentation of Platinum Games’ new hack’n’slay hit “Astral Chain”. The game has the story of a crime movie and takes part in the long-away future: The so-called “Chimeras” want to destroy our world and you, part of a special police task force, have to stop them. As a police officer you have to do your job – follow traces, investigate crime scenes and catch the bad guys… umm… monsters! When you have completed your detective tasks you are thrown into several hard combats. And then you can admire why Platinum Games is so famous for their brilliant games! Perfect fast gameplay, difficult enemies, great tactics, outstanding graphics and a pumping techno sound – wow! And you are not alone – you will be supported by five armed “legions” who have different weapons to use. Not enough – you can level up your “legions” and make them better and better. It’s a little bit of Pokémon inside of this new PG game. “Astral Chain” looks great, don’t miss it. HIT POTENTIAL: 9-10

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Wow, this game looks so great – it offers the charm of the Game Boy classic game and really, really great new graphics. This jewel is discussed a lot in the social media – and I can tell you, nothing more to say, the art style is great! In our demo we could collect the mushroom, go to the witch and enter the first little dungeon ( I think everyone knows what I am talking about) – and I felt like thrown directly into the Game Boy era! Well done, Nintendo, this is how a remake should be done! It’s one of the best games of the 90s and it will be one of the best games in 2019. HIT POTENTIAL: 10!

Luigi’s Mansion 3

I can’t stop raving – Luigi’s Mansion 3 was the third game I could watch and play and it was again a great experience! It was a pretty short demo in which you could use Gooigi, hunt several ghost and defeat one boss. But it showed all why this game will another must buy – the new gameplay mechanics make the Luigi’s Mansion experience even better. Gooigi is fun to play with and you can reach new areas because of his fluid body, you can now throw plungers to disarm the attacking ghosts and you can hit the enemies to the ground to bring down their life bar. And the graphics are awesome too – Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be one of the best looking Switch games! We could not play the multiplayer but I am sure that it will be great as in Luigi’s Mansion 2. Two words to say: preorder it. It will be a hit for sure. HIT POTENTIAL: 9-10

Resident Evil 5

Yes, it’s an old game and yes, everyone knows it – it’s exactly the same game you can play on PC, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. I played the coop mode – yeah, it was great fun. It’s like Resident Evil 4, but now you are supported. The game looks good, no loading screens to see and it runs smooth – Capcom has done a better job than with RE Remake and Zero. If you like the action based Resident Evil games, then you will get a good deal. HIT POTENTIAL: 7-8

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

First I have to say that I am not a great fan of Marvel’s universe – but this game is great fun! We played the four player mode –which can be played online too!– and it is a modern “Streets of Rage”. Every super hero can carry in his special abilities and you can assemble a strong team to defeat the endless enemies. It is not as beautiful as Zelda or Luigi’s Mansion 3, but the graphics are OK. The gameplay is very strong, the coop thing works really good. I think when you play alone it’s still a great hit’n’run game. HIT POTENTIAL: 8

Pokémon Sword and Shield

“Most hated game of E3” – come on, guys, it’s Pokémon. And Pokémon is always a great deal. OK, some Pokémon will be missing, but the game will have to offer tons of content. I could play the new starters and, yes, I liked them. The battles are designed well and it’s fun to play as always. The new fights with the BIG BIG monsters are well-made, too. And the graphics? The trees? YES, THE TREES?! When you run through the game you don’t really care about trees, sorry – so many Pokémon appear and it’s fun to hunt and get them. And the trees aren’t as ugly when you are in motion. Believe me. I didn’t play the demo too long because I didn’t want to spoiler myself to much – but, I can tell you, Pokémon will hit it’s 8th generation and it really looks and feels like a new generation of Pokémon. HIT POTENTIAL: 9-10

Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

I really loved the first Mario & Sonic games and the new one will be multiplayer hit game too. We played a bow & arrow game and it’s great as the one in Wii Sports Resort. I think everyone knows what you can expect – all relevant sports of the Olympic Games and a great fun with friends in front of your TV. And the pro players can again achieve new records and load them up into the internet. It’s a typical Mario & Sonic game – if you like the motion sports games, it’s your game to get. HIT POTENTIAL: 7-8

New Super Lucky’s Tale

Umm, nice. Yes, only nice. “New Super Lucky’s Tale” is a very easy jump’n’run game, more aimed to a younger audience. Don’t expect a Super Mario Odyssey – “New Super Lucky’s Tale” is too easy and too simple, but it’s not a bad game. The graphics are OK, the main character is sympathetic and the quests are not to challenging. You can collect a lot and it reminds you of the good old N64 era. HIT POTENTIAL: 6-7

The Elder Scrolls: Blades

It’s a smartphone game and it felt like a smartphone game. Too simple and too boring. Not a great deal. You fight one enemy after another and so on… HIT POTENTIAL : 2-3

I didn’t play “Dauntless” (the demo was broken), “Dead by Daylight” and “Hollow Knight: Silksong”. I enjoyed my trip to Frankfurt a lot, especially “Zelda”, “Luigi’s Mansion 3” and “Astral Chain” made it a great trip for me and you can expect great games this year.
