Famitsu has published their overall sales data for the Japanese market for August 2018.
Lifetime Nintendo Switch hardware sales have reached 4.97 million systems as of August 2018. As 45,000 to 60,000 consoles are moved every week in Japan, we expect the system to officially surpass 5 million consoles this week.
We’ve also learned the top 5 bestselling games of August 2018, all of which are games on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo had the lion’s share in terms of hardware and software sales in August 2018.

- Splatoon 2 (NSW) – 96,639 copies
- WarioWare Gold (3DS) – 90,121 copies
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (NSW) – 86,897 copies
- Taiko no Tatsujin: Nintendo Switch Version! (NSW) – 77,761 copies
- Etrian Odyssey Cross (3DS) – 75,834 copies
Top hardware sales of August 2018
- Nintendo Switch – 199,473 units (previous month: 242,733 units)
- PlayStation 4 – 86,061 (previous month: 92,032 units)

- Nintendo – 582,000 copies
