Jim Carrey Wins “Best Villain” Award For His Dr. Robotnik Performance In The Sonic Movie
Following its debut in 2020, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie saw a robust success at the box office – thanks in no small part to its producers giving Sonic himself a much-needed makeover. On top of that, however, it looks like the movie’s nefarious villain has also helped it earn some accolades!
Namely, Actor Jim Carrey was named ‘Best Villain in a Movie’ during the inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards for his performance as Dr. Robotnik – a scheming government scientist who becomes obsessed in his hunt for Sonic’s supercharged powers. Carrey took the award over Kathryn Newton (Freaky), Martin Short and Jane Krakowski (The Willoughbys), J. K. Simmons (Palm Springs), and Hilary Swank (The Hunt).
Sonic the Hedgehog was also nominated for ‘Best Superhero Movie’ (which went to The Old Guard) and ‘Best Actor in a Superhero Movie’ (which went to Ewan McGregor for his role in Birds of Prey).
