A new firmware update has been released on Wii U, and while nothing seems to have changed on the surface, dataminers have found a piece of text hidden in the update that may upset fans of Nintendo’s online community, Miiverse.
The hidden text mentions the end of the Miiverse service, which gives us the impression Nintendo has begun preparations to stop the service.
“The Miiverse service has ended. Miiverse and any software features that make use of Miiverse are now unavailable.”
It isn’t an unexpected move, since Nintendo is no longer publishing new games on Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS is most likely making its way out within the next few years. With no Miiverse support on Nintendo Switch, the service is bound to end when Nintendo 3DS support ceases.
So, enjoy Miiverse while it lasts.
