While most Nintendo fans in the world are complaining about the high Nintendo Switch 2 price, Nintendo fans in Japan are thinking otherwise – in fact, they are rejoicing.
According to a Twitter poll on an official Nintendo Switch 2 post with over 8,000 respondents, 85% of poll respondents say that the Nintendo Switch 2 is “cheaper than expected”, while 15% think that it is “more expensive than expected.”
For reference, the Nintendo Switch 2 (Japan SKU) will retail for 49,980 yen (USD333) inclusive 10% sales tax, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle (Japan SKU) will retail for 53,980 yen (USD360) inclusive tax. Exchange rates are at the time of writing.
In comparison, the console retails for USD449.99 before sales tax, and the Mario Kart bundle retails for USD499.99 in the US.

The reason why many think that the console is cheaper than expected is because majority of the Japanese Nintendo community were expecting the console, without the game, to retail between 50,000 yen to 60,000 yen in Japan. Considering the weak yen and inflation, 49,980 yen is a huge, pleasant surprise to Nintendo fans living in Japan.
However, keep in mind that the Japan SKU is partially region locked – the system language is restricted to Japanese, and only Nintendo Accounts set to Japan can be linked to the system, which means that you are only allowed to use the Japanese Nintendo eShop on the Japan SKU.
