Recently there has been much talk about Splatoon 2’s amazing sales numbers in Japan, and not many have noticed the strength of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the land of the rising sun.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launched in Japan on April 28, 2017. Although it sold 284,823 copies at launch (as compared to Splatoon 2’s 648,085), its sales momentum is much stronger than other older first party titles on Nintendo Switch.
In the past 15 weeks, weekly sales for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have never dropped below 10,000 copies, which other titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and ARMS have not managed to do. They’re still on the top 20 sales chart though!
