Mario Voice Actor Charles Martinet Thanks Fans For Support Following Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer

Following the release of the Super Mario Bros. movie teaser, one of the major targets of criticism was the performance of Chris Pratt as Mario, which many felt was not comparable to that of his predecessors, particularly Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario in the vast majority of his videogame appearances.

Although Martinet is confirmed to have a role in the film, many fans feel disappointed that he was not chosen to play Mario, especially since he has expressed interest in doing so in the past. Among these fans was prominent voice actress Tara Strong, posting on Twitter that Martinet should have been cast in the role, following it up with a call for love and support for Martinet from fans.

At the time of this writing, Strong’s request has received over 14k likes and numerous replies from fans sharing stories and support for Martinet. Among them is a response from the man himself, thanking fans for their love and kindness.

Although there has been a lot of rumor and speculation as to why Martinet was not cast in the lead role, we will likely never know the truth about the decision. Rather than mourn what could have been, it may perhaps be more positive to celebrate the fun and laughter Martinet has brought to us as Mario thus far, and look forward to what the future may hold.
