Marvelous, the publisher of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, one of the first titles hitting Nintendo Switch 2 as well as Nintendo Switch, has released a FAQ concerning the game’s release.
The FAQ confirmed that physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can be played on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. If the game is played on Nintendo Switch 2, it will boot up with the Nintendo Switch base game and Upgrade Pack (performance/graphic improvements and possibly additional game content) for Nintendo Switch 2, whereas if it’s played on Nintendo Switch, it will only launch with the Nintendo Switch base game.
Another thing that was also reconfirmed is that the complete game is on the Game Card, so no additional download is required in most cases. And in the case of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, both the base game and Upgrade Pack are stored on a 64GB Game Card, the highest capacity for a Nintendo Switch 2 Game Card.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a red 64GB game card that includes, in full, the Nintendo Switch game and the Upgrade Pack.
There’s no need to download the full game: simply insert the card into either a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console, and the correct version will launch automatically.
Like most modern titles, there may be small updates or patches available at launch to provide minor fixes and improvements, but rest assured: the complete game is on the game card, ready to play from day one.
