30 years ago on 27th April 1992, Kirby’s Dream Land was released on the Game Boy in Japan, beginning the journey of everyone’s favorite pink puff to becoming one of Nintendo’s major icons.
Over on Twitter, Masahiro Sakurai, who created Kirby when he was still working at HAL Laboratory, shared a special post to commemorate his creation’s 30th anniversary. In this post, Sakurai shared a small tidbit about Kirby’s now iconic victory dance, and one of the challenges he faced animating it for the original game.

Today “Kirby of the Stars” is 30 years old.
Please continue to get along! The first Kirby clear dance.
At the time of development, when I asked the person in charge of sound about the number of frames of clear music, he said, “I don’t know.”
I made it according to the sound while rewinding the clear music recorded on the cassette tape many times.
Alongside Sakurai’s post, the official Japanese Twitter account for the Kirby series also shared their own special message for the anniversary, which features a special artwork of Kirby and Elfilin enjoying a Kirby Car cake.
