Masuda: I Felt Nostalgic While Developing Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee

Nintendo Australia and New Zealand have released their exclusive interview with Game Freak developers Junichi Masuda and Kensaku Nabana.

During the interview, Nintendo Australia and New Zealand asked some of the Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee questions they’ve chosen from fans.

First, the duo pointed out that Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee is a game for both newcomers and veterans to enjoy. Junichi Masuda then revealed he likes to travel to different places to seek inspiration for the games that he make. He notes down the history of buildings that he visit.

Nabana said one of his favorite things while developing Pokemon Let’s GO is drawing the initial sketches and moving from Step 0 to Step 1. The primary feature of the Poke Ball Plus is to transfer Pokemon into it and bring it wherever you go. Something surprising happens when you bring the Pokemon back into the game, but that hasn’t been revealed yet.

When asked to choose between Pikachu and Eevee, Masuda picked Pikachu, while Nabana chose Eevee. On the question of companion Pokemon that follow you around, Masuda said he wanted Psyduck to follow him, while Nabana preferred Flareon. Also asked were their favorite Eeveelutions – Masuda likes Sylveon, while Nabana loves Flareon.

Masuda said that when he was working on Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee, he felt a sense of nostalgia. One example is when rewriting the dialogue for the characters, because it’s something that stayed in his mind for more than two decades since Pokemon Red and Blue were out. Also contributing to this are younger Game Freak staff such as Nabana who played Pokemon Red and Blue when they were in school.

The duo briefly spoke about Pokemon GO Park, and explained it’s used to transfer Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon Let’s GO. Lastly, they told fans they would enjoy playing Pokemon Let’s GO on the big screen and connecting it to Pokemon GO.
