Following the disastrous Pokemon TCG campaign that drew condemnation for food waste and mismanagement, McDonald’s Japan has enforced new purchase limits for the second series of Pokemon Happy Meal toys available from August 15, 2025.
A 3-sets-per-group limit will be imposed at all restaurants from August 15 to August 17, 2025. During this three-day period, it will not be possible to purchase more than 3 Happy Meal sets in a group order, whether it’s through dine-in, mobile takeout, or delivery.
Customers that try to purchase more than 3 sets will have their orders refused. After August 17, the purchase limit will be lifted if there are leftovers available for purchase.
Many Japanese customers think that the new purchase limits still fall short, as they feel that a 1 set per customer limit is fairer. In addition, some have questioned whether McDonald’s Japan truly understands the problem at hand, as the issue affected the Pokemon TCG booster packs, which were far more desirable than Happy Meal toys.
