Microsoft Edge’s Extension Store Discovered Hosting Unauthorized Copies Of Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros. And More

Microsoft Edge, the default web browser for the Windows operating system, was recently discovered to be hosting unauthorized copies of several iconic games on its extensions store.

As documented by TheVerge, the games discovered included “Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Pac-Man, Tetris, and even Minecraft“. Notably, these titles were uploaded by developers with unfamiliar names such as “Kday” and “Yoox”, and were evidently put on the extension store without permission from the original creators.

Although Microsoft has since taken down most of the listings, one user who downloaded the Mario Kart extension reported that it installs roms of the games in question. That said, downloading it yourself may not be such a good idea, as unauthorized products could have nefarious purposes.

Presumably, now that the issue has come to light, Microsoft will be more careful about curating extensions uploaded to the Edge store.

What do you think? Let us know in t he comments.
