Minecraft Has Sold 154 Million Copies Worldwide, With No Plans For A Sequel

Minecraft is still hitting new milestones – and it seems like Microsoft and Mojang will not be shaking up the series any time soon.

After sales of the sandbox game hit 154 million copies, Microsoft once again confirmed that it had no plans for a ‘Minecraft 2’. According to an interview by Business Insider, Minecraft lead Helen Chang commented as follows:

“I really don’t think that makes sense for Minecraft, given the community. It’s something that always fractures the community. We’re trying to keep our community together. That’s why our updates our free. We don’t want to ask [players] to move from Minecraft 1 to Minecraft 2. We want them to just enjoy Minecraft. And there’s other ways that we can expand that are more meaningful and authentic to what we want to be, rather than just releasing another iteration in the way that most other franchises do.”

These comments come in light of many new Minecraft announcements recently. The base game will be getting new hostile villagers, creatures, and worlds in the coming months. Meanwhile, Microsoft announced ‘Minecraft: Dungeons’ exclusively for PC – but only considers it a spin-off from the main game.

In any case, it seems like the Minecraft team are still prioritizing their fans! Good on them.
