Last month, a revival of the classic indie RPG OFF was announced for Switch and PC.
As it turns out, part of the revival’s soundtrack was composed by none other than Toby Fox, the creator of Deltarune and Undertale. In an interview published by the developers, it is revealed that the game’s original composer felt uncomfortable about signing over the rights to the soundtrack for the revival, and developer Mortis Ghost reached out to Fox to ask if he was interested in composing a new soundtrack for the game.
Obviously, Fangamer and Mortis wanted to use the original soundtrack. They tried to reach out to the composer, ACC, to get the rights to use it… but ultimately, he felt nervous about signing anything and disappeared. However, he has stated that he doesn’t mind that his music isn’t being used, and he has no problem with the new soundtrack. So, it’s a bit weird, but everything is chill.
…
But, Mortis asked me if I was interested, and, given that his game really inspired me, and he’s a super nice guy… I decided I would try my best to help. To ensure that new players, even if they didn’t get the exact same experience, would get a pretty cool one.
Fox also said he composed all his music for the game for free, and will release his tracks for free once the game is released.
