Earlier in May, Warner Bros Games and Netherrealm revealed a Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection physical release for Switch – which was implied to be the base game plus a download code for the Aftermath expansion DLC. Various retailers have since updated their listings for the package, however…and it looks like collectors will be getting even less than that.
According to Best Buy and Amazon, it looks like the game will not even contain a game card in North America at all! A large white banner on the cover artwork now clarifies that the release will be nothing more than a download code within the box.
Meanwhile, this release of the game will only launch digitally in the UK. Warner Bros. Games later clarified to Cultured Vultures that this was due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which hampered their efforts to release the game physically at all:
“Due to circumstances and challenges related to the current COVID-19 situation, we made the decision to release Aftermath and the Kollection through digital partners only in the UK.
“The physical Kollection SKU on Switch (for the Americas) will be code in box for all content…”
