NBA Playgrounds: Enhanced Edition Now Available As A Free Update On Switch

Saber Interactive has released an improved version of NBA Playgrounds called NBA Playgrounds: Enhanced Edition on Nintendo Switch.

The update is now available for free via the North America and European eShop for owners of NBA Playgrounds. The game has also been discounted by 50% to USD9.99 until January 18, 2018.

Upon downloading the update, players can expect a decrease in file size, access to all previously released free content, and other improvements. Full details can be found in the press release below.

NBA Playgrounds’ new upgrade includes all of the free post-launch content that has been released so far for the title on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC. This includes over 100 new players from different eras (including Tim Duncan, Julius Erving, Steve Nash, and Manu Ginobili), second team jerseys, a three-point contest mode with online play, revamped rebounding system, and more. Despite the additional content, the upgrade also reduces NBA Playgrounds’ file size. The complete list of update notes can be found on the game’s official forums: https://playgroundsgame.com/support.

Users should note this new edition of NBA Playgrounds is a standalone title separate from the original version of the game and must be downloaded independently through the Nintendo eShop (the upgraded edition can be identified by a golden frame around the game’s icon in the eShop). Players can safely delete the old version of NBA Playgrounds after downloading this upgraded edition but should be careful not to delete their existing game saves, which will be automatically converted and playable in the upgraded version of the title after installing. Online play will remain functional for the previous version of the game, but those players will not be able to connect with those who have downloaded NBA Playgrounds: Enhanced Edition.

In addition, NBA Playgrounds’ first paid DLC, “Hot ‘N Frosty,” is now available to purchase on Switch for $9.99 through the Nintendo eShop. It features three new playgrounds (Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and Miami), each with their own tournament, as well as eight new rookies: Markelle Fultz, Jayson Tatum, Lonzo Ball, Josh Jackson, De’Aaron Fox, Dennis Smith Jr., Jonathan Isaac and Malik Monk. “Hot ‘N Frosty” is also available on the PlayStation®4 system, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Saber previously announced that anyone who had purchased NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch prior to June 10, 2017, will receive a free copy of Saber’s Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn when it releases on Switch. Further information on Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, still in development, will be shared with the community in 2018.
