Earlier this year, The World Ends with You finally received an official sequel in the form of NEO: The World Ends With You. Unfortunately for fans of the stylish action-RPG series, however, it looks like the new game has been having a rough time since launch.
According to Square Enix’s latest Outline of the Results Briefing released this week, the game’s sales have apparently fallen short of the company’s “initial expectations”. This is despite NEO: The World Ends With You being “well received” by players.
Here’s the full excerpt from the company below:
The HD Game sub-segment released “Life is Strange: True Colors” and “NEO: The World Ends with You” in 2Q. We have plans to release “Life is Strange: True Colors” for Nintendo Switch, as well as “Life is Strange Remastered Collection” in the near future. We are hoping for both titles to continue to sell well over the long term.
While “NEO: The World Ends with You” was well received by users, it has underperformed our initial expectations.
NEO: The World Ends With You first launched worldwide for Nintendo Switch and PS4 on 27 July 2021, followed by a PC release in September 2021. We’ll report back if we hear more in the future.
