New Nintendo Patent Showcases What Appears To Be A Standalone Joy-Con Design

As many fans will know, Nintendo has a habit of registering patents for all sorts of strange peripherals. We previously got a peek into design drafts for a bendable Joy-Con long ago, and now it looks like Nintendo might be cooking up yet another interesting variant of the controller!

A new patent has reportedly surfaced from Nintendo, revealing what appears to be a standalone Joy-Con controller – without any visible SL/SR buttons or charging rails to connect to the Switch! In fact, this conceptual design also lacks the “+” or “-” buttons that usually help to differentiate left or right Joy-Con controllers.

Take a closer look below:

Of course, it’s not clear if Nintendo is planning to make this controller a reality in the future. In any case, we’ll report back if and when we ever see this strange new Joy-Con design again!
