Interesting news – according to a 2023 patent filing by Nintendo which has just gone public, it seems that Nintendo was planning on adding the IR camera to Nintendo Switch 2.
The patent shows that the IR camera was going to be built into the right side of Nintendo Switch 2 console, and it would be able to perceive elements such as the user’s hand. For comparison’s sake, the IR camera is located in the right Joy-Con on Nintendo Switch.
The IR camera has been removed from Joy-Con 2, so games that support it cannot used this functionality unless you use the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con instead.
