Niantic Confirms Apple Watch Support For Pokemon GO Will End July 1st, New Event Announced For Japan

Earlier today, Niantic made several announcements relating to upcoming changes and events for Pokemon GO in July.

Firstly, Pokemon GO will no longer support connectivity with the Apple Watch starting on July 1st. The reasoning for this is that it is no longer necessary due to the adoption of Adventure Sync, which performs similar tracking functions and more.

Secondly, a new Rock-type event will be starting on the same day of July 1st until July 15th. The event is to commemorate Geodudes new status as the official Pokemon of the Iwate prefecture in Japan, along with the re-opening of the railray in Sanriku. During the event, the following Pokemon will have increased spawns:

  • Geodude will generate in large numbers throughout the Prefecture of Iwate.
  • Other Pokémon of rock type, among which are Sudowoodo, Onix, Omanyte, Kabuto and Aerodactyl, will have increased their appearances in the coastal area of Sanriku.
